Veronica is also stretched out on our bed this week and Osbasso has the list of the rest of the half-nekkid people.

Happy HNT!

Karma’s a Bitch

Posted by hubman38 on January 20, 2010

And she kicked me in the ass!

Today our submissive unicorn friend was supposed to come over for a couple of hours of nekkid fun.  Veronica had arranged for the day off from work and I was going to work a half day, but not requesting to have the time off ahead of time.  Instead, I was going to tell my boss that we had a sick kid at home, but Veronica had some work stuff she couldn’t cancel or miss, so I would have to be at home for half the day.

You know where this is going, right?

Princess Persistent really is home sick! Tuesday afternoon daycare calls Veronica to tell her that PP has spiked a fever and needs to go home.  Which means she won’t be allowed back for 24 hours, so we had to contact our friend and cancel.  Fortunately, she’s a mom too and understood and we hope to reschedule with her soon.

So much for celebrating hump day with 2 hot and sexy nekkid women :-/

=============================================================================

To further irritate me [I'll admit, I was grumpy because of having to cancel with our friend], when I get to the day care center I find PP bundled up and headed outside with her classmates.  Let’s review a few facts, shall we?

  • She has a 101-point-something fever
  • They are sending her home ASAP and not allowing her back on Weds [per policy]
  • It’s about 35 degrees out and raining

Anyone else see why I was perturbed?  To the centers credit, they encourage at least some outside playtime every day, even if only for 15 minutes, and ask that kids have appropriate clothing to do so.  Plus, there is a 40′x40′ covered play area, so they weren’t necessarily going to be in the rain. So taking the kids outside is perfectly normal.

But our daughter is sick and I’m on the way to get her because they’re sending her home!  Why is she going outside in a cold rain?  If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen the angry tweet I fired off when I left.  Veronica saw it and promptly called the director of the center.  Fortunately, not only is Veronica calmer than me when irritated [I tend to yell and cuss at people who piss me off, which isn't exactly productive, or so I'm told...], but she also used to work for the day care company in their corporate office.  If nothing else, Veronica has maintained a good relationship with her former boss aka the CEO of the company, and the center director knows that.  She was very apologetic and promised to have a word with PP’s teachers.

=============================================================================

On the bright side, with no influence from us Darling Boy declared that he would like to donate some money from his piggy bank towards the relief efforts in Haiti.  Veronica is telling the story on her blog today.  I think it’ll make you smile, you should check it out!

Day 20- Bookworm

Posted by hubman38 on January 20, 2010

My little man is becoming a bookworm! Tuesday evening Veronica had to work late, so I had Mr Mom duties. After dinner, the kids asked if we could go downstairs and if I could start a fire.  Once I got it going, Darling Boy was perfectly content to pull up his beanbag chair and settle in with a book for an hour!  We actually had an entire evening with no TV or video games!

Day 19 – Experimenting with White Balance

Posted by hubman38 on January 19, 2010

I was flipping through my copy of “Nikon D90 for Dummies” ['cause I'm a dummy...] and was reading about adjusting white balance as a means to make color corrections.  I’ve been disappointed with many pictures taken in our bedroom and how the yellow hue of the wall has looked, so I took some pictures to play with different “stock” white balance adjustments available on my camera.

First, using the automatic mode.  It looks okay, but all the colors are off just a bit.

Next, I tried the “incandescent” setting and the colors look a lot truer.

Then I tried the “flourescent” setting. That’s no good, but I didn’t expect that setting to work anyway, I just wanted to get a feel for how much of an effect adjusting white balance can have.

And finally, for the hell of it, I tried the “direct sunlight” setting, just to see.  Wow, that looks like crap! If our bedroom walls were really that color, I’d always want to keep the lights off!

I’m glad I tried this little exercise, as it looks like using the incandescent setting does a pretty good job of correcting the color problems I’ve noticed before.  Now to see how it looks when Veronica is part of the picture. Or maybe I already have ;-)

Day 18 – Where’s the beef?

Posted by hubman38 on January 18, 2010

It’s on the grill, but it’s actually chicken breasts marinated in balsamic vinagrette dressing and pork chops marinated in the same dressing plus some maple syrup.  Any time that Veronica asks me to grill, she always has me cook a few extra pieces to have for meals later in the week, and it’s no different in the winter, even if it’s cold and starting to rain.

Swing Shift Volume 28- Diversity in the Lifestyle

Posted by hubman38 on January 18, 2010

A reader named Lojo [no blog to link to] left the following comment:

I’m not a swinger and have no interest in joining the lifestyle, but am curious about the types of people you come across.  You’re obviously an intelligent couple.  Do your “dates” tend to be like you intellectually? Socio-economically? Ethically?  Politically? Religiously?  It is such a foreign lifestyle to me that I’m curious.  Sorry if this is too intrusive, and maybe not an appropriate blog comment.

Before we attempt to answer the readers question, I’d like to point out 2 things- I don’t know that we’ve ever had a question that we consider too intrusive to answer and whether a reader is in the lifestyle or not [or even just interested] is irrelevant to us.  We’ve had questions from experienced swingers, newbies, people who are looking to get started, and the just plain curious.  The point is, anyone is welcome to comment or leave a suggestion!  Okay, on to the questions…

First of all, thanks for the compliment, thinking that we’re intelligent.  But as I tell people when they learn that I’ve earned my Ph.D., I’m not very smart, I just went to school for a really long time!  Seriously, we don’t care about “education” because we’re more interested in physical attraction and chemistry and besides going to school doesn’t necessarily make someone intelligent, so I don’t think it’s fair to say that our dates tend to be like us intellectually.  Besides, I know a some very smart people with no more than a high school diploma and a few Ph.D.’s who are idiots…

As far as ethics, politics, and religion, I can’t say what the swinging community is like.  Some might argue that partner swapping and casual sex among married couples is inherently unethical!  Politically, I would guess that swingers as a group are more left of center than the general population, but that is just a guess and I have nothing to support that.

In our experience, the swinging community in our area is pretty white- I can’t recall ever meeting a black couple at any parties or clubs and we’ve only met a few Hispanic couples.  But on the other hand, there seems to be numerous black men on the lifestyle websites we belong to, so I did a quick search.  Within the search parameters I used [just age and distance], there are 227 white couples and 100 single white men, compared to only 7 black couples and 18 single black men.  So I guess my initial impression about minorities in the lifestyle in our area was correct.  Don’t ask me why I think that swingers are more likely than not to be white, because I have no idea!

Veronica:  As far as the socio-economic question, I have found that most of the couples we have met in the lifestyle seem to be at least middle class.  It’s my opinion that to participate in the lifestyle you need a little disposable income.  Even though  all you need to get started is an internet connection and an email account, there is more to it.  First off, you need access to internet at home, as most libraries will not probably let you access the lifestyle websites there, and even if you can, in many libraries you need to use your library card to access the internet, which kills the whole privacy thing.  You can have free memberships at the different sites, but they do not give you as much access and privileges as the paying memberships.    At some point you have to go out on dates with people, which is not cheap either.  When Hubman and I go to a party hosted by our favorite group between the party fee, sitter, and gas, it is easily a $100 night, and that is before any special theme outfits are purchased.  We are going to an on-premises club this weekend, and it’s a $20 membership fee, a $25 application fee and a $90 fee to actually walk in the door for the party.   Then you have the ancillary costs of cute outfits and lingerie to wear and it’s not being a very cheap investment.

Hubman: I KNEW that someday Veronica wouldn’t be a cheap date!  Hahaha

Veronica: We have not spent enough time with any one couple to ask about religion or politics. Discussions of what we all do for a living happen, but not usually indepth.  We tend to not mention Hubman’s Ph.D a some people find this intimidating.

When we search for couples we usually look for ones that have the same interests as us, (no pain, safe sex, no drama,) so since they are on the same playing field there, we feel the ethics match up.

===========================================================================

What we’re left wondering is if our experiences are atypical or not.  I remember Southern Vixen writing a post, I think it was before she moved to WordPress, talking about people from all walks on life in the lifestyle- doctors, cops, teachers, academics, military, IT professionals, corrections officers, self-employed, marketing, etc.  Do any of you have any experiences different from ours?  Are we off-base with any of our impressions about those are who in the lifestyle?  As always, comments are appreciated, as are suggestions for future volumes of Swing Shift.  In you prefer to remain anonymous, just e-mail me at hubman38 at gmail dot com and I’ll keep your identity to myself!

Apropos of Nothing

Posted by hubman38 on January 17, 2010

Random thoughts on a Sunday afternoon…

I can’t remember the last time there was a commercial break on one of the major TV networks and there wasn’t a commercial for either Scott Brown or Martha Coakley [As I was writing this post, there were 3 in a row, one from each candidate plus a 3rd party one for Coakley].  I’ll be glad when Tuesday’s special election as come and gone.  Tell me, my readers from other than Tax-achusetts, is this election getting much play in the news?  The Democrats “super-majority” in the Senate is at state and many are saying that this election is not just a race between the candidates but also a referendum on the Obama administration and the political climate in general.

As an aside, my stat tracker indicated that 4 people who searched for “Scott Brown” yesterday landed on my blog.  I wonder if they found what they were looking for?  lol…

=================================================================

Some days I seriously want to duct tape my daughters mouth shut.  I wonder how she finds the time to breath with the continuous stream of verbal diarrhea that spews forth.  But on the bright side, she’s been in “big girl” underwear for almost a week with no accidents, so yay for that!

=================================================================

Veronica and I have 2 ideas for tomorrow’s Swing Shift, but I can’t decide which one I want to use.  Should we write about 1 half of a couple trying to “convince” their partner to try swinging or should I share some of the crappy e-mails we’ve received on the swingers sites we belong to?

=================================================================

I’m really excited for this coming week.  Our submissive friend may be coming over to join us for an afternoon of sucking and fucking on Wednesday, then on Saturday night we’re making our first trip to a local “on-premises” swinger club.  On top of that, my dad is coming to visit and will watch the kids while we spend the night in a hotel room.  Which is especially nice, since next Sunday is someone’s *cough-mine-cough* 40th birthday.

=================================================================

As a die-hard NY Giants fan, I can’t believe that I find myself rooting not only for the Jets today, but also for the Cowboys.  I’m rooting for the Jets since I like Rex Ryan and his attitude, plus it’s like pouring salt in a wound for Patriots fans if they continue to succeed while the Pats are at home.  Also, they hold training camp at my under-grad alma mater, so that’s kinda cool.  As far as the Cowboys, the idea that I’d even consider rooting for them tells you just how much I dislike Brett Favre.

=================================================================

I have no idea what do for my Project365 post tomorrow, and have no plans to leave the house today. Hmm…

Happy Sunday!

Day 17 – Manual Labor

Posted by hubman38 on January 17, 2010

Saturday was gorgeous, a clear blue sky, no wind, just a surprisingly nice mid-January day in New England.
Of course, I took advantage of it and completed some chores outside- I took down the Christmas lights, rotated the tires on my truck, and split some wood for the fireplace.

Yes, it’s a small pile, but we don’t rely on the fireplace for heat, only for ambiance, in certain situations ;-)

Day 16 – Blue

Posted by hubman38 on January 16, 2010

The Digital Photography School posts a weekend photography challenge every Friday.
This week’s challenge is simply “Blue”, so I thought I would give it a try.

I was thinking of just Darling Boy’s beanbag chair, but Veronica insisted on getting in the shot. I hope you don’t mind ;-)

Is it me, or does the quality of the image look sub-par compared to my other pictures?
