My Circle? and Veteran’s Day Thoughts

Posted by hubman38 on November 11, 2009

A reader who e-mailed me a suggestion for Swing Shift prefaced it with something that kinda bothered me:

Since I’m not a member of your circle, but just an occasional lurker, it might as well be anonymous.

Is there a perception that there is some sort of inner circle among my readers?  It’s no secret that I have some good friends who read this blog.  But you know what? Every one of them started out as a reader who commented on my blog, or I did so on their blog.  None of us would know each other if not for this blog or Veronica’s blog.

I do notice that most of my comments come from the same core group of people, many of whom are among those I consider friends, and I don’t really mind that.  But I guess I would mind it if it’s because any of you don’t feel welcome and just lurk.  If that’s all you prefer to do, great, and thank you for taking the time to read.  But if you have something to say, please do!

I’ll admit it, I’m a comment whore and love the interaction.  The more the merrier I say!  Look at this screenshot of a comment from a few days ago. Not only can you leave comments, but by using the Reply function your comment can be directed towards someone, either myself or another reader.

I have 2 simple rules for comments- they should be relevant to the post and any personal attacks or insults will not be tolerated. Break either of those rules and I’ll delete the comment.

If anyone has ever commented and then wondered why it didn’t show up, that’s usually because WordPress places all comments from a new IP address in moderation.  So whether you’re a long-time commenter or someone new, your comment will have to wait until I can read and approve it before it will appear on the blog, which if I’m busy with life might take a little while.  But once that IP address is approved, all future comments will appear right away.

By the way, Suburban Hotwife was referring to hidden click-thru pictures in my post on Sunday.  Both of my posts yesterday had hidden click-thru pictures as well.  You might want to get into the habit of clicking on any visible images- you never know if there might be a hidden treat *wink*

===========================================================================

Let’s not forget that today is Veteran’s Day here in the US.

“We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.”

“A Veteran is someone who once wrote a blank check payable to the United States for any amount, up to and include his or her life”

If you have the chance, thank a Veteran today.

Only in America

Today is the Armistice between Germany and France in 1918.

Eight million men died. Two million were critically injured for life.

They were not soldiers. They were farm boys and teachers and entrepreneurs, and everything you could imagine, and they were so young.

I just had to react to your post with a thought for all those in the world who have fought in wars without choosing to be soldiers-who are brave veterans although they chose a different path for themselves.

Of course many people have fought in wars without volunteering. Do we honor those who volunteered any more than those who were drafted? Just because someone is wearing the uniform of nation doesn’t necessarily mean they volunteered. And even those who did volunteer, you think any of them *want* to go to war?

      Thanks for your comment.

Awww, thanks for the shout out and extra cyber-traffic!

    Happy Veteran’s Day!!!
    :)

  6. Thanks for the shoutout to the Veteran’s. And I love America in all its dysfunctional glory!

  7. Why so many comment rules, Hubman? For such a naughty boy, I’d think you’d hate rules as much as I do…

I love ASM’s comment about loving American in all it’s dysfunctional glory……so true. :)

I always laugh at the Braille on the drive through ATM’s.

Thank you to all our Veterans!

But you taught me a secret handshake to get into the secret inner circle…..or was that just one of your tricks? ;-)

Great post reminding people about that our Veterans have done.

I love comments too. And I’m fairly sure I get many more lurkers than commenters. Oh well…

    Happy Veterans Day!

Ahhh I too am a comment whore. I’m sad that my job has taken me from everyone lately.
    Great post! Happy Veterans Day!

Not quite sure how I found your blog – but, I have very much enjoyed what I have had time to read so far. You do a wonderful job of expressing yourself as a genuinely nice family guy who is bold enough to share his sexual side. I’ll be a regular follower from now on of both you and your wife’s blog – thanks for blogging and taking the time you do to provide well thought out posts.

I’m a comment whore too, but I just don’t get any comments.

  15. Those points brought a nice smile to my face :) They are ironic but oh so true!

I think it can be a bit intimidating, especially for new bloggers, because there often is a little circle of people who are all friends (whether just virtual or real life as well) that will all comment on each other’s blogs just by the nature of our little section of the blogosphere and it’s easy to feel not a part of that – but that’s not your fault – I would say your blog was pretty inviting ;)
